You will be accompanied by our tour guide on a visit to Corleone Sicily, one of the most interesting places close to Palermo, sadly best known as the birthplace of the Mafia, and Totò Riina. You will learn many interesting points about the Sicilian Mafia yesterday and today. From the 1960s onwards, the town became infamous as the home to some of the most powerful Mafia clans - the Corleonesi - who established their headquarters there. The name of the town was also adopted as the surname of the main protagonist of Francis Ford Coppola's movie, The Godfather: Vito Corleone (Corleone Family).
Al Pacino / Marlon Brando / Francis Ford Coppola : they are all names related to the Godfather's saga that will be impressed in our memory forever.
The town has a small and very beautiful historical centre. In Corleone you can visit the Anti-Mafia Museum, which holds a huge collection of documents and pictures related to some of the most critical mafia conflicts. It will be, without doubt, a unique opportunity to better understand the Sicilians' distaste for the mafia, and how so many honest judges and police have risked their lives in their fight against them. With the 1986 dossiers of the maxi-trial and the photography exhibition of Letizia Battaglia, our tour guide will walk you through an emotional journey which cannot but move you. " Cosa nostra ", (like it is known the Sicilian Mafia) will be explained and illustrated and its origin will be better understood. Even the most famous Mafia Boss Totò Riina was buried recently in Corleone. Riina and Bernardo Provenzano are still the two bosses most connected to Cosa Nostra.
Within the Nature Reserve of the Forest of Ficuzza you find the Royal Hunting Lodge, which was from 1799 King Ferdinand III of Sicily's summer hunting estate. A great chance to visit the famous forest of Ficuzza with its country paths, and maybe you'll even come across the wonderful "wild asparagus" which naturally flourishes there.
