Fancy sharing a 8-day tour of Sicily with new friends? Our tour of 8 days and 7 nights, departing from Catania, is available from 26 March to
5 November, each Saturday. The programmes is as follows:
Day 1 - Saturday - CATANIA (hotel in Catania) Arrival with own transport at the hotel in the fascinating city of Catania (transfer service available on request). Meeting with your guide in the late afternoon, dinner and overnight stay in your accommodation.
Day 2 - Sunday - SYRACUSE AND NOTO (hotel in Catania) First breakfast in the hotel, then off to Syracuse, UNESCO World Heritage Site, to visit what was the largest and most powerful Greek colony in Sicily in the Neapolis Archaeological Park. We'll then visit the old town centre of Ortigia where you'll discover the charm of Piazza Duomo and its beautiful Cathedral. Free time for lunch. It's then time to head to Noto, the capital of Sicilian Baroque, known as the "garden of stones", rich with stunning buildings. Return to Catania for dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 3 - Monday - ETNA AND TAORMINA (hotel in Catania) After breakfast in the hotel, it's departing for Mount Etna. Once at Sapienza Refuge we'll head to the Silvestri Craters, volcanic craters formed during the eruptions of 1888, now inactive but surrounded by more recent lava flows - a breathtaking sight to behold! Then a visit to a beekeeping business to discover how they make honey, followed by a honey tasting along with other traditional products of the area. Following to Taormina, famous for its unforgettable panoramic view of the sea and Etna. Lunch at a charming restaurant in the old town centre where we will help you in a lesson of show-cooking, to create some of the classic dishes of Sicilian cuisine! Then it's time to visit the Greek-Roman ampitheatre with its breathtaking views of the gulf of Naxos. Free time to stroll along the enchanting little alleys of the Medieval centre. The day will close with a panoramic view of the Cyclops Riviera, before returning to the hotel in Catania for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 - Tuesday - CATANIA AND CEFALU' (hotel in Palermo) The day begins with a tour of the old town centre of Catania. We'll check out the historic "pescheria" fish market, Piazza del Duomo with its stunning Cathedral and Elephant sculpture made out of lava stone (the symbol of the city), the Baroque beauties of Via dei Crociferi and more. A quick stop in a bar for a delicious granita and brioche, and then after lunch it's time to head to Cefalù, a charming Medieval fishing village facing the Mediterranean, embellished by an impressive Norman Cathedral. A stroll along the streets of the town centre, and for those that want to, the chance to visit the famous Mandralisca Museum. We'll then move on to Palermo, to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 - Wednesday - MONREALE, PALERMO AND MARSALA (hotel in Marsala) After breakfast in the hotel, the morning will be dedicated to discovering the town of Monreale where you will visit the imposing Arab-Norman Cathedral and stunning cloisters. Then to Palermo for a guided tour of the city. The residence of emirs and kings, Palermo has many monuments of the Arab-Norman period, including the beautiful Cathedral; the Martorana Church, a wonderful example of Medieval Byzantine architecture in Italy; and the Palatina Chapel. You can't miss out on visiting the Kalsa quarter and the famous Ballarò market. En route there'll be a stop at the historic Antica Focacceria S. Francesco, followed by a free lunch. It's then time to move on to Marsala to visit a prestigious winery for some wine-tasting. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 6 - Thursday - MARSALA, SELINUNTE AND AGRIGENTO (hotel at Agrigento) The tour continues in the wonderful town of Marsala with its stunning colours, where you'll see whilst walking along the famous Via del Sale the islands of Stagnone and the salt flats - one of the oldest salt extraction industries in the world. Following this, a stop at Selinunte to stroll through the ancient remains of the Greek city and its temples, part of the most extensive archaeological parks in the Mediterranean and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Free time for lunch. Then to Agrigento to visit the famous Valley of the Temples, another site declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. An evening in the hotel, with dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7 - Friday - PIAZZA ARMERINA AND RAGUSA (hotel in Catania) The morning begins with a visit to Piazza Armerina and the incredible Roman Villa of Casale, once the residence of an important Roman aristocrat. Free time for lunch. The afternoon will be dedicated to discovering Ragusa Ibla, the epicentre of Late Sicilian Baroque architecture with its wonderful churches and Ibleo garden. This marvellous ancient town has over 50 churches and many palaces, all in the Baroque style. The visit will end with a stop for a tasting of local products typical of the area. Transport to the hotel in Catania, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8 - Saturday - CATANIA Breakfest in the hotel and the tour has come to its end!
Multilingual authorised guide for the entire tour (from the evening of
Day 1 until the evening of Day 7). Local guides and audio-guides when
necessary. Gran Comfort Minibus (from Day 2 until the end of Day 7).
Accommodation in elegant 4* hotels, generally in the centre of the
towns. Half-board in the hotel or local restaurants (fixed menu dinner
of 3 dishes to taste some of the classic dishes of Italian and Sicilian
gastronomy. Drinks not included). 1 lunch in Taormina on Day 3 (fixed
menu, drinks not included) with a lesson of show-cooking. Local product
tasting: Etna honey tasting with other local produce (Day 3), Catania
granita and brioche (Day 4), Palermo gastronomic surprise tasting of street food (Day 5), Marsala wine and food tasting (Day 5), Ragusa tasting of local foods
Transfer to/from airport. All the lunches apart from in Taormina on Day 3. Drinks at the meals. Entrance to the monuments and museums. Tourist tax (where necessary). Tips and general extras. Travel cancellation insurance upon request. Privilege package which includes: Superior/deluxe bedrooms, private transfer to/from airport, tourist tax, entrance fees to all museums on the programme. You can request this package as an extra at the time of booking.
To make a reservation a prepayment of 50% of the total is required. The outstanding balance must be paid by credit card or bank transfer at least 30 days before the commencement of the tour.
If you cancel between 29-21 working days in advance of the scheduled commencement of the tour, there is a 10% cancellation fee. If you cancel between 20-12 working days in advance of the scheduled commencement of the tour, there is a 30% cancellation fee. If you cancel between 11-7 working days in advance of the scheduled commencement of the tour, there is a 50% cancellation fee. If you cancel between 6-4 working days in advance of the scheduled commencement of the tour, there is a 70% cancellation fee. If you cancel between with less than 3 days notice there will be no reimbursement.
