The bronze work of “Teseo screpolato”<\/strong> stands 1700 meters above the lava rocks of the Etna volcano, and in the background the two active summit craters out of four: Bocca Nuova and Cratere Centrale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the territory of Ragalna, in Contrada Serra la Nave, on March 7, 2024, one of the 28 contemporary works of art by Igor Mitoraj was installed: the “Teseo screpolato”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who was Theseus?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to the greek mitology, Theseus<\/strong> was the good hero, loved by all the inhabitants of Attica<\/strong> for his wisdom, his kindness and his foresight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the classical iconography of Theseus<\/strong> is depicted with a relaxed face, but here on Etna<\/strong>, thanks the works of I. Mitoraj, the aim was to represent a decadent society with a cracked face <\/strong>to show us the fragility of contemporary man.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition the work highlight <\/strong>also <<relationship between<\/strong> earth and divine, between art and nature<\/strong>>>.<\/p>\n\n\n

At the end, the work of “Teseo Screpolato \u2013 Cracked Theseus<\/strong>” will remain until October 31st, 2025.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the largest exhibition of <\/strong>“Mitoraj. Lo Sguardo, Humanitas, Physis<\/em>” ever created and sponsored by the Sicilian Region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The material is bronze<\/strong> and the cracks denote the background of two of the four summit craters of Etna<\/strong>: the Bocca Nuova <\/em>and the South East crater<\/em>, opposite if you look in the same direction as Theseus<\/strong>, you can admire the Gulf and the Piana di Catania <\/strong>in all their splendor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not far from the “Teseo Screpolato \u2013 Cracked Theseus<\/strong>” just 3 minutes by car (about 15 minutes on foot), you arrive at Piano Vetore<\/strong> where a small wood offers peace and tranquility with the possibility of having a picnic, thanks to the installation of wooden benches and tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From “Teseo Screpolato \u2013 Cracked Theseus<\/strong>“, the Piazzale Rifugio Sapienza<\/strong> from which all excursions depart, and the Etna cable car<\/strong> are just over 5 minutes away by car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
