The editorial staff of TgCom24 has dedicated special attention to the Sicilian region, proudly placing it on their exclusive list of the ten most fascinating maritime treks in Italy.

At the heart of this selection, we find: the Aeolian Islands, with special emphasis on Stromboli. This volcano offers the possibility to explore its slopes through two fascinating trails, one starting from San Vincenzo and the other from Ginostra.

Climbing the crater

The Stromboli crater climbing adventure is designed for thrill-seekers who want to experience the power of this active volcano up close.

Allow us to anticipate this extraordinary Sicilying adventure: together with an expert volcanological guide, you will immerse yourself in an unforgettable experience along paths that will lead you to the summit of the volcano, positioned 926 meters above sea level. Departure is from the picturesque square of the Church of St. Vincent, and in about 3 hours, you’ll wander through nature, traversing the varied Mediterranean flora from vibrant shades of green to the warm colors of solidified lava.

Along the way, you will make scenic stops to admire a unique spectacle that unfolds between sky, earth, water and fire. Arriving at the top, about 900 meters above sea level, you will have the privilege of enjoying the nighttime explosions of Stromboli, an unforgettable experience lasting about 1 hour. The descent will be thrilling; you will face the “Rina Grande” a steep, sandy descent that will bring you back down in about 1.30 minutes.

If, on the other hand, you prefer a quieter route immersed in nature, a route known as the “low route” runs behind the town of Stromboli. This route allows you to reach the side of the Sciara del Fuoco and offers the possibility of stopping at scenic viewpoints (150 to 400 meters above sea level) to admire Stromboli’s striking lava fountains, without having to reach the top of the volcano.
